In Thermopolis, as in most of the Rocky Mountain West, weather can be fast changing, and temperature extremes are quite common. Due to its sheltered location, in the Big Horn Basin, and low elevation, Thermopolis is often called the "banana belt" of Wyoming because the sun is almost always shining, and the wind rarely blows. Snowfall is usually light, and usually doesn`t remain on the ground long. Thermopolis has one the most desireable climates in Wyoming, while still offering the beauty and diversity of all four changing seasons throughout the year.
